Combating Hunger Requires Unity and Collective Action

(28 May is World Hunger Day)

It is common to see children and elderly individuals from upper-middle-class and upper-class households having various food choices, while lower-class individuals have to manage with whatever they can afford within their limited financial means. Underprivileged populations, meanwhile, struggle with extreme poverty and hunger. Given that today is World Hunger Day, it is crucial that we bring attention to this vital issue. Interestingly, the issue is not a result of insufficient food or overpopulation, but rather a lack of thoughtful planning on the part of the global population and that affects millions worldwide. Let us just give a thought before wasting food. Believe me, individual efforts is not futile because Individuals who sincerely addressed this issue conceived the idea in 2011 and designated May 28th as Hunger Day to raise awareness. This heartfelt reminder provides a strategic opportunity to emphasize the profound disparities in food access and affordability, and to mobilize collective action towards meaningful change. This multifaceted issue encompasses not only food availability, but also equitable distribution, economic empowerment, and social justice. What innovative strategies or awareness initiatives would you propose to leverage the potential of this day and drive lasting impact?

There are some Government Initiatives fighting hunger in India:National Nutrition Mission (NNM) or POSHAN Abhiyaan, Zero Hunger Programme, Eat Right India Movement, Midday Meal Scheme and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana etc and many NGOs are helping and promoting this cause but it is imperative that each of us makes a commitment to reduce food waste and demonstrate compassion for the underprivileged, as this is essential for meaningful progress.
